How did I purchase my first home?
At the tender age of 15, I had a crystal-clear vision of what I wanted to do and what I wanted to be: to own a house and become a Real Estate Agent, and I did not back down!
My journey into both my career and the world of property began while I was still in high school. I opted for an alternative learning path that allowed me to engage in a traineeship and study at Tafe, all while completing my secondary education. This unique approach introduced me to the basics of Real Estate. I vividly recall a former employer reminiscing about my early years in the industry, saying, "I thought you were an unusual kid to aspire to be a Real Estate agent at such a young age." To this day, that comment never ceases to amuse me, perhaps because it was so undeniably true!
After graduating from St. Norbert's College, I not only completed my traineeship but also completed four business certificates. This paved the way for my full-time employment at Professionals Willetton. During my time here, I gained valuable experience in Administration, Marketing, and Property Management.
Who would have thought that at 19, I would navigate the complex world of property with such success? Most people my age do not have any knowledge about property as they are either, living with their parents, renting with friends, studying at university, or exploring the world.
How did I do it?
**1. Save, save, save: Imagine the challenge of saving on your very first job with a regular income. The allure of buying the latest fashion, having the newest gadgets, driving a fancy car, or regularly going out with friends was hard to resist. But when you set your mind on something, it can be achieved.
**2. Consult a mortgage broker: This step is crucial. A mortgage broker will guide you through the intricacies of how banks operate, help you prepare your finance application, and, most importantly, determine how much you can borrow.
**3. Be prepared to make sacrifices: My dream was to own a free-standing home in Wilson, the suburb where I had spent 19 years of my life. Unfortunately, my budget couldn't accommodate that dream. For your first home, you might have to settle for a home in a strata complex, a different suburb, or one that lacks all the bells and whistles you desire. And that's perfectly fine – it's your first home, not your forever home.
I understand that many people who aspire to buy a home don't choose a career in property. That's where I can assist you on your property journey. Assisting first-time homebuyers (as well as families, couples, and downsizers) in purchasing their first home takes me back to the exhilarating moment when my own offer was accepted.
Once I finally settled into my first property in 2019, which felt like a lifetime but was only an 8-week transaction, I ventured into the realm of Property Management. Property managers truly deserve a round of applause for their hard work and dedication.
